Inauguration

The President of Diputación Provincial of Alicante, Mr. José Joaquín Ripoll, inaugurated the new Town Hall of El Ràfol d'Almúnia on September 26, 2003.

The inauguration completed a project valued at €273,718, in which the provincial government invested 95% of a project included in the Provincial Complementary Plan for Works and Services.

This project involved the refurbishment of the ground, first and second floors of a 336.29 m2 building, which has been equipped with an assembly hall, mayor's office and offices for political and local groups, with the aim of making this building the centre of daily municipal activity.

Ripoll pledged to continue promoting projects like this in small towns so that residents could enjoy the same minimum services as those in larger towns, thereby attracting citizens from other countries.

The president was also able to see the construction work on the auditorium being built next to the new town hall, which currently form a single building. The construction of this building is included in the 2003-2004 Local Operational Plan, initially budgeted at approximately €360,000, excluding furniture and other equipment.

The event concluded with the town council inviting all attendees (citizens and authorities from towns in the region, provincial deputies, and technical experts) to a wine reception.  The event was enlivened by a group of dolçaina i tabalet musicians from the neighboring town of Pego.

ESCUT

The popular tradition of Ráfol has always embraced the coat of arms that exists on the main altar of the parish church. However, the village of Ráfol de Almúnia had never had a coat of arms to officially represent it.

The desire to officially obtain a coat of arms that would represent our town in all events and thus reinforce the personality of Ràfol de Almúnia led us to request the approval of this coat of arms from the Technical Council of Heraldry.

RESOLUTION of 1 March 1999, of the Minister of the Presidency, approving the coat of arms of the Town Council of Ráfol de Almunia (Alicante). [1999/3866]

The Town Council of Ráfol de Almunia has deemed it appropriate to adopt a coat of arms to represent and symbolise it. Therefore, in accordance with the powers conferred upon it by the legal provisions in force, it submitted the corresponding proposal for approval, following a report and heraldic study.

The procedure was carried out in accordance with the rules established in Decree 116/1994, of 21 June, of the Valencian Government, regulating the symbols, titles and honours of local authorities in the Valencian Community.

The Technical Council of Heraldry issued a favourable resolution. For these reasons, and exercising the powers conferred on me by the aforementioned legislation, I hereby resolve: To approve the coat of arms adopted by the Town Council of Ráfol de Almunia, which shall be organised as follows:

"Quadrilateral coat of arms with a rounded tip. Divided. In the first quarter, on a gules field, five silver houses arranged in a cross. In the second quarter, quartered in sautor, in the first and fourth quarters, on a gold field, three sinople pines on a mountain, also sinople; in the second and third quarters, a gold wing on an azure field. At the crest, an open royal crown."

BANDERA

At the same time that the coat of arms was requested, the council of El Ràfol d'Almúnia deemed it appropriate to adopt a flag to represent and symbolise it.

RESOLUTION of 31 July 2001, of the Minister of Justice and Public Administration, approving the flag of the Town Council of El Ràfol d'Almúnia (Alicante). [2001/8607]
